First law of thermodynamics

First law for isobaric processes

𝑑𝑊=𝑝𝑑𝑉𝑑𝑄=𝑛𝐶𝑝𝑑𝑇

where

For ideal gas

By the Ideal gas law, if 𝑝 is constant,

𝑑𝑉=𝑛𝑅𝑝𝑑𝑇

and therefore

𝑑𝑊=𝑛𝑅𝑑𝑇𝑑𝑈=𝑑𝑄+𝑑𝑊=𝑛𝐶𝑝𝑑𝑇𝑅𝑑𝑇

which, using the equation from First law for isovolumetric processes, shows

𝑛𝐶𝑉𝑑𝑇=𝑛𝐶𝑝𝑑𝑇𝑅𝑑𝑇𝐶𝑉=𝐶𝑝𝑅

Monatomic

As a consequence of the above, for a monatomic ideal gas

𝐶𝑝=52𝑅
