$⃗ 𝐇$ -field

The $⃗ 𝐇$ -field is an auxiliary field defined as

⃗ 𝐇 = ⃗ 𝐁 𝜇 0 - ⃗ 𝐌

where $⃗ 𝐁$ is the magnetic field and $⃗ 𝐌$ is the magnetization. $⃗ 𝐇$ satisfies Ampère's law for magnets which is analogous to Ampère's law satisfied by $⃗ 𝐁$ , however unlike $⃗ 𝐁$ it is not in general divergenceless ( $⃗ \nabla \times ⃗ 𝐇 = - ⃗ \nabla \times ⃗ 𝐌$ ).
