Function

Image and preΓ―mage

Given a function 𝑓 :𝑋 β†’π‘Œ, the image1 𝑓⋆(𝐴) of a subset 𝐴 βŠ†π‘‹ is the set containing all output values 𝑓(π‘Ž) for π‘Ž ∈𝐴 #m/def/general, whereas the preΓ―mage2 𝑓⋆(𝐡) of a subset 𝐡 βŠ†π‘Œ is the set containing all elements of 𝑋 with an image in 𝐡. #m/def/general

𝑓⋆(𝐴)={𝑓(π‘Ž):π‘Žβˆˆπ΄}𝑓⋆(𝐡)={π‘₯βˆˆπ‘‹:𝑓(π‘₯)∈𝐡}
