Matrix algebra over a ring
Matrix over a module
Let 𝑉 be a (left) 𝑅-module.
The matrix space M𝑚,𝑛(𝑉) is the (left) 𝑅-module #m/def/module
M𝑚,𝑛(𝑉)=𝑚⨁𝑖=1𝑛⨁𝑗=1𝑉
consisting of 𝑚 ×𝑛 rectangular arrays and
acted on the matrix algebra M∙,𝑚(𝑅)
so that for 𝐵 =(𝑏𝑖𝑗)𝑚,𝑛𝑖=1,𝑗=1 ∈M𝑚,𝑛(𝑉) and 𝐴 =(𝑎𝑖𝑗)ℓ,𝑚𝑖=1,𝑗=1 ∈M𝑚,𝑜𝑝𝑛𝑀𝑙(𝑅) we have
𝐶 =𝐴𝐵 =(𝑐𝑖𝑗)ℓ,𝑛𝑖=1,𝑗=1
𝑐𝑖𝑗=𝑚∑𝑘=1𝑎𝑖𝑘𝑏𝑘𝑗
In particular, M𝑚,𝑛(𝑉) is a (left) M𝑚,𝑚(𝑅) module.
